ps2. lo stesso ragazzo, shafraz di nome, ci ha raccontato che una volta all'anno fanno un torneo di calcio alla playstation tra tutti i 130 addetti, con tanto di squadre sorteggiate ecc. l'anno scorso ha vinto, con l'inter. quest'anno e' uscito in semifinale, pur giocando bene. secondo lui il problema era che ha dovuto giocare con una squadra pessima: il bayern di monaco.

ps2. derselbe einheimische, shafraz mit namen, erzaehlte uns, dass sie einmal jaehrlich einen playstation cup spielen, mit zugelosten teams und so. letztes jahr habe er gewonnen, mit inter; dieses jahr sei er im halbfinale ausgeschieden, habe aber gut gespielt. das problem sei gewesen, er habe mit einer schlechten mannschaft spielen muessen: bayern munich (seufz).

Little Wars

Zum Geburtstag von H.G. Wells (21.9.1866 - 13.8.1946)

Little Wars (1913) ist das Regelwerk für eines der ersten (Tabletop-)Strategiespiele, geschrieben vom Science Fiction-Autor (obwohl es den Begriff damals noch nicht gab) und Pazifisten(!) H.G. Wells. Der volle Titel lautet: Little Wars; a game for boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books.




Kernstück des Spiels ist eine kleine Kanone, die 2cm-lange Holzzylinder mit hoher Präzision verschiesst (siehe Bild oben). Wells beschreibt ihre Vorzüge auf enthusiastische Art und Weise:

"[...] Little War, as we know it, became possible with the invention of the spring breechloader gun. This priceless gift to boyhood [is] a gun capable of hitting a toy soldier nine times out of ten at a distance of nine yards. [...] It fires a wooden cylinder [...], and has a screw adjustment for elevation and depression. It is an altogether elegant weapon."

Wells wurde in der Folge von verschiedenen britischen Militärs kontaktiert, die das damals zum Training verwendete "Kriegspiel" des Baron von Reisswitz als öde und unstimulierend empfanden. Wells war für dieses Interesse sehr dankbar und erarbeitete sogar erweiterte Regeln für eine Adaptation als Kriegspiel - er beschliesst jedoch das Regelwerk mit deutlich pazifistischen Worten:

"How much better is this amiable miniature than the Real Thing! Here is a homeopathic remedy for the imaginative strategist [...], and no smashed nor sanguinary bodies, no shattered fine buildings nor devastated country sides [...] Let us put this prancing monarch and that silly scare-monger, and these excitable "patriots," and those adventurers, and all the practitioners of Welt Politik, into one vast Temple of War, with cork carpets everywhere, and plenty of little trees and little houses to knock down, and cities and fortresses, and unlimited soldiers—tons, cellars-full—and let them lead their own lives there away from us. [...] My game is just as good as their game, and saner by reason of its size. [...] Great War is at present, I am convinced, not only the most expensive game in the universe, but it is a game out of all proportion."

Er war ein grosser Befürworter des Völkerbundes und empfand tiefe Enttäuschung, dass die Menschheit es nicht schaffte, einen zweiten Weltkrieg zu verhindern. Im Jahr 1941 schrieb er, seine Grabschrift solle lauten :"I told you so. You damned fools". Sein Wunsch blieb unerfüllt.

E' morta Teresa Strada, presidente di Emergency

Ieri pomeriggio a Milano è morta dopo lunga malatttia Teresa Sarti Strada, presidente di Emergency.

A Gino Strada ed ai collaboratori di Emergency (http://www.emergency.it/) le nostre condoglianze.

Teresa ha dato più di quel che ha preso: che le sia lieve la terra.
